I am from the Philippines and looking to intern in Singapore. the companies are asking as for a rough estimation of living expenses... I dont know what to answer... obviously I'm not getting a salary rate, but that's fine..

can you give a reasonable rate? thanks

hi! i appreciate you discussing about the cost of living in singapore. im actually looking for articles or forums that talks about how it's like in sg since i also have plans in working there,probably some time this 3rd or 4th quarter. do you think its easier to go and apply there (coz that's what i always hear). another question, i have a friend who's undergrad but already has a lot of experiences, do you think he would be able to get a job there? coz iv checked at the POEA website and every post requires to be a college grad. hopin for your reply and looking forward to your next article! what uv discussed here really makes a lot of good points! keep it up! =)

Good point about the relative cost of living. Rent is much more expensive here in Singapore, but we find food cheaper (compared to what people earn).

We always get shocked when we're back home in Manila -- the cost of eating out in restaurants there isn't that far from the cost of going out in Singapore!

@Anonymous - different companies have different priorities. While it's true that some companies only prefer Singaporean or Singapore PR's, others also put value on EPEC. Bottom-line here is your qualification for the job. The job market is a bit tough now so pushing harder will help you a lot.

@Anonymous - Singapore is still in recession but things are starting to look up as well. Chances of gfetting a job, no matter what industry, depends on a lot of factors. Bottom-line, it is possible. Yes, MBA matter in Singapore but your work experience also count a lot.

@Anonymous - Thanks for your comment. Generally, it helps if you have some form of working experience before you go here to look for a job. However, that doesn't mean you cannot apply as early as now. Most companies here in Singapore utilize job portals (monster, jobsdb, jobstreet) in looking for a new employee. I personally know some people who got a job offer while they are still in the Philippines. It's just a matter of pursuing it very aggressively. All the best to you.

Hi! Im a fresh grad at a top university here in the philippines. ive been planning and dreaming to work in singapore to earn more to help my family. i find your blogs very informative and useful! it is possible to have a clean philippines. we only have to start with ourselves. why can pinoys obey the rules in singapore but not in the phils? why do pinoys throw garbage in rubbish bins (and segregated disposal as it is) and dump same rubbish on philippine streets? unless we change ourselves, we cannot change the entire nation.

Since they already gave us 30 days for visa...we can still extend for another 30 days right? then if after that, we still couldn't get a job..that's the time we can activate our EPEC, right?
